I found these ceramic houses to be a great analogy to the concepts of Home, Home Ownership, and Place.  The idea of home is complicated in that home as not just a physical place, but a sense of being, and a force - something that can both drive you forward and yet also pull you back as an anchoring presence (for some its peace, others stressful).

In this second iteration of the concept, What Holds shows a tenuous grasp on home. The house sits precariously on two corners, the front porch jutting out towards the viewer.  The figure has a non-committal hold on the house, perhaps as an offering to the viewer. I was very inspired by Colter Wall's song "Living on the Sand" - especially the lyrics " I've been living on the sand; don't take much to drive my hand." I imagine it would not take much to drive these hands to drop this precarious hold.

Canvas Secret: If you are not familiar with Blue Delft houses, these are actually collectable Gin bottles handed out by KLM airlines. My parents collected a dozen of these during their 15 years of travel living & working in Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia. I fondly remember playing with these as a child - and regret how many I damaged during that time!
