Before I became a professional artist, I was often struck by the number of art pieces that are part of the visual “white noise” that permeates our world. These mass-produced pieces occupy office walls, business parks, and hotel rooms and serve to keep these spaces from being too bland without being interesting enough to distract us from our busy lives. In this series, I set out to challenge that notion. As an artist, my goal was to create representational art that does the opposite. I try to make art that attracts the eye and engages the viewer.
In this series, I challenged myself to subvert the idea of mass-produced art that would grace banal spaces and infiltrate the genre with pieces that may seem like bland consumer art but conceal a sense of my own artistic vision. To further the idea of hiding something unique under the cover of mass production I repurposed cardboard, goldleaf, and plaster with acrylics and oils to create my own artistic Trojan Horse.
